One of the interesting and somewhat unique features of the frescoes in Vologda is the vibrant blue background that ties the surfaces together creating a undivided space. That blue background, although found in other places too - mostly pre 13th century with Greek influence, is very rare in later periods.
The other day I came arcoss frescoes from Turin painted by Giacomo Jaquirio in 1410-1415.
